Robert Stanley Cosh was born in Vancouver BC to Donald Cosh and Ruby Brass. He had one older brother, Ray Cosh.
Robert, along with his mom and brother, moved back to Nipawin, SK. Robert and Ray lived with their grandparents, Sam and Clara Brass. They lived near the Old Nipawin Bridge, which Robert’s dad worked on from 1928-1929. The old bridge was their playground all year round: swimming in the North Saskatchewan River and diving off the piers. They also loved fishing from the sandbars in the river. They went to school in Nipawin and played hockey with their two best friends, Max and Bruce Grandfield. Robert worked with his granddad in Nipawin and area. He moved to Saskatoon to work with his brother Ray on construction.
Robert met Hesther in Saskatoon in 1950. He was friends with her sister/brother-in-law. They were married on May 5, 1956. They moved to Port Alberni, BC to work. Their son Jim (1956) was born in BC before they moved back to Saskatoon. Their daughter Darlene (1958) was born, followed by another son Guy (1960). The family then moved to Nipawin in 1960 where their youngest son, Steward (1964) was born. Robert worked for Ron Baumgartner for the next twenty-five years. Robert built their first house and shop in 1960. He had his own business, ‘Bob Cosh Cabinets’ in which his sons worked with him. All three sons eventually got married, had families of their own and moved out of town. So, Hester picked up the hammer and helped out. There were plenty of bent nails, but the job always got done! Robert and Hesther went to a lot of hockey games at the Old Nipawin Rink (which was cold; no heat!). They took all the children to watch The Nipawin Hawks. Their sons and daughter all played hockey in that old arena. Robert coached some hockey for his son’s team. He even helped with the girls’ hockey teams. Robert loved the game. He also enjoyed watching the children play baseball. He also enjoyed going to the river to fish and have a picnic with his family. Another one of his favorite pastimes was attending the Nipawin Fair. In 2008, due to his failing health, Robert and Hester sold their house and moved into Jubilee Place. While there, Bob had a fall and was unable to walk. He moved into Pineview Lodge where he lived for 9 years until his passing.
Robert is predeceased by his parents, Donald and Ruby Cosh; and his son, Jim.
