Eleanor Alyea

Eleanor Forence Alyea (Hunter) was born in Ardath, SK. to Bill and Maude Hunter.  She was the youngest of 11 children so learned to entertain herself by drawing, painting and dressing up her cat.  She did her schooling in and around White Fox, then went to Saskatoon Teachers College.  She taught in Gibbs, Eldersley, Mistatim, Mileton, Moose Range and finally Arborfield where she taught for 30 years.

She met and married Alvin Alyea on December 30th, 1958 and they celebrated their 61st anniversary in 2019.  In that time, they dedicated themselves to the community, taking part in every committee in town.  A record of over 60 years in the Legion, many years in the Royal Purple, Library Board, Health Board, Alfalfa Dehy. Plant, Care Home, supporting hockey teams and parades.  Everyone will remember buying raffle tickets.

Eleanor was the ‘Poppy Lady’ at Remembrance time.

I have never seen a busier person.  Besides teaching she was reading, knitting, crocheting, painting things from rocks to sawblades.  Along with fishing trips and looking up info in her many history books.

After retirement she managed a trip to the U.K. to find her roots in Ireland, many trips to Vancouver to see the rest of her clan, with her best friend and sister Irene.  She went on many trips to Hawaii with her friends.

Eleanor was the warmest, most generous lady willing to help with anything, always had time to serve tea with a smile.  Loved her flowers and garden and she gave us wonderful memories.

Eleanor is survived by nieces and nephews and all her friends.

There will be a private family service at a later date.
