Obituary of Leonard Miller

Please share a memory of Leonard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Leonard Donald Miller, of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, 88 years of age, passed from our hands to God’s on February 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Leonard was born to William and Rosalia Miller (nee Hassman) in Smeaton, Saskatchewan. Leonard was the youngest of three children and was raised in Snowden. Leonard met his future wife, Marion Sebelius, in Snowden, and they married in the Snowden United Church on June 28,1958.

In 1958, Dad and Mom moved to Nipawin and purchased a grocery/gas store there, which they owned until 1971. Today the store is known as Abraham’s. In 1971, they moved to the farm near Snowden, where they raised their six children. Dad farmed all his life, and it truly was his passion. Mom would joke about Dad always having to “scratch the dirt”.

In October of 2019, Darryl purchased the family farm and Dad and Mom moved to Prince Albert. Dad enjoyed being able to come out to the farm to stay where he could ride with Longs in the combine, cut grass or crop check with Jim and Donna. Dad was a jokester, and quite often teased Jim about getting busy swathing the canola or combining because he thought the crop was ready; this is how Dad earned his nickname “The Superintendent”.

Dad enjoyed going daily to Snowden Star Hotel for coffee and to play crib with his local friends. Dad had a passion for fishing, hunting, playing cards, and curling. He would often say “for every hour you fish, you’ll live a day longer”. He had countless fishing and hunting stories. Anyone that knew our Dad has likely heard a story or two from him; this will be immensely missed. Dad would often start his stories by saying: “did I ever tell you about that time? ...”.

In earlier years, Dad was an active volunteer in the community at events such as Snowden fall suppers and Snowden snowmobile poker rallies, where he sat at a checkpoint with his friends. And of course, enjoying a drink or two and more storytelling during his shift at the checkpoint.

Dad loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Mitchell, Brianna and Broden hold countless memories of staying with Grandpa and Grandma on the farm, camping and fishing.

Dad enjoyed spending time in Saskatoon with Doreen and Gregg and his grandbunny. He looked forward to visits from Sid and Diane, which involved eating pie or cake with Sid, as they lived close by in Prince Albert. Dad enjoyed many fishing trips in the boat and ice fishing with Darryl. The competition was usually on as to who was going to catch the biggest one or the most fish!

Dad fully loved socializing and making new friends. He got to know the neighbours at the condo complex where he lived at in Prince Albert and would make pies for them. Dad loved to visit with people and would joke with anyone. Even when he was not feeling good, he joked with the nurses. Dad had a wonderful ability to make others smile, and he will be remembered for his easy-going personality, generosity, integrity, willingness to lend a hand to his neighbour, clever sense of humour, storytelling ability, and wisdom.

Leonard was predeceased by his wife, Marion; his parents, William and Rosalia Miller; two children: Dwayne Miller (1982) and Doug Miller (2018); and two siblings: Edna Pagan and Harold Miller. Leonard is survived by his four children: Doreen (Gregg) of Saskatoon, Diane (Sid) of Prince Albert, Darryl of Choiceland, and Donna (Jim) of Choiceland; and grandchildren: Mitchell of Prince Albert, Brianna of Auburn, WA, and Broden of Rapid City, SD.

Dad leaves behind many precious memories, and we will miss him profoundly. His memory will live on in our hearts. Dad is celebrating a reunion with our Mom, Doug and Dwayne. Our spirits will visit ... Until we meet again, Dad.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
