Obituary of Russell Rosteski

Please share a memory of Russell to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Russell Corey Rosteski was born in The Pas, MB. to parents Darrell Rosteski and Loretta Deschambeault.  Russell was raised by his maternal granny ‘Choomaluck’ Marie Deschambeault.  Supporting her was her sister Hazel Harris Deschambeault.

Russell had lots of opportunities as he enjoyed many sports.  He was very athletic, winning foot races competitions always running on his toes.  He was a long-distance swimmer, spending many hours at the winter pool.  His granny would involve him in everything.  She signed him up for AAA hockey with The Pas Huskies Jr Hockey.  His team would yell ‘Rosteski, Rosteski’ when he would go on the ice.  Our mother retired and moved back to Cumberland House, SK. and Russell continued to play hockey on the Cumberland House Cree Nation hockey team.  His granny and mother would volunteer driving the boys to hockey games and practices.  He also started meeting lots of friends and connected with cousins.  He attended Nisto Awasisak Memorial School.  He struggled to get jobs until he got his Adult 12 at NAMS.  He got his welding ticket in Nipawin at the polytechnic school.  He worked as a Fire Fighter, Fire Separator for some time.  After which he learned carpentry from his uncles and grandpa – Angus, Cordell, and Lionel.  His late uncle Putt-Putt called him a hard-working ‘Bowhunk’ (Russell was our Indian Ukrainian).

He met his true love, married her, and had three boys, Kao, Theo, and Wolf.  Kao was near death at birth. He is with us today, but the family had to learn to live with challenges as our Kao’s hearing was damaged giving him a deaf identity.  Our Island had no support, so the family moved so Kao could learn and grow with this new way of living.  Russell worked in Cold Lake, AB. on the oil rigs during this time.  Recently, Edmonton, AB. was his home until his sudden passing.

Russ is survived by his wife, Sharise and his three sons, Theo, Kao, and Wolf.  His loving parents, Darrell Rosteski and Loretta Nabess, and his step-dad Kevin Nabess.  His siblings Leo Constant, Natasha Chevillard, and Damian McKenzie.  Numerous nieces and nephews.  His maternal aunties and uncles, Beverly Goulet, Hazel Harris, Cordell Deschambeault (Jodie) and Lionel Deschambeault.  His maternal cousins, Sheldon Goulet, Adrian Goulet, Sunni Goulet, Megan Goulet, Phillip Deschambeault, Stephanie Harris, Seagun Laliberte, Renee Deschambeault, Raylene Deschambeault, Francis Deschambeault, Cordell Deschambeault Jr., Jessie Deschambeault, Choom Deschambeault, Lakota Deschambeault, Angus Thomas, Lesley Budd (Leon) and Glenn (Whiteboy) Thomas.  His God-daughters, Meadow Constant, Je’dyce Kakum, and Aybree Harris.  His paternal aunties and uncles, Dianne Constant (Rick), Delilah, Bonnie, Tammy, and Randy Rosteski.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Lionel and Marie Deschambeault and his paternal grandparents, Carl and Mildred Rosteski.  His auntie, Lorraine Thomas and his brother/cousin, Seth Deschambeault.
