In 1929 when Doreen was two her family moved south of Choiceland to the Blue Fox area. Doreen started school at age six. She had to walk a mile to school but stated ‘that was a short walk compared to most of the walks kids made’. Doreen complete grade ten at Blue Fox school. She then went to Choiceland High School and completed grade eleven.
Doreen was fifteen when she met the love of her life, Harold. They dated for a couple of years and then Harold proposed at a dance at Blue Fox.
