Obituary of Robert Lindsay
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert “Bob” Lindsay was born in Arborfield Saskatchewan to Walter and Katherine Lindsay. Bob took his schooling in the Addington district and grew up on the farm with his siblings, Florence, Frances, Donald, Katherine David. Bob married Doreen Grassing Dec. 4, 1957, Bob and Doreen had two sons Darren and Eldon. Bob and Dorren started farming in 1962. Bob always had a passion for farming. He quit school at a young age to help his dad on the family farm as all the hired men were away at war. This passion continued throughout his life. The couple retired from farming in 2001 and rented their land to their son Eldon. Even though Bob retired he was still active in the farm. He was the gofer running for pieces, helping move equipment and every fall until 2022 he would operate a combine for Eldon and Landon. He was so proud to be a farmer and so happy to see his son Eldon and grandson Landon continuing the farming operation.
In the winter months Bob enjoyed curling, ice fishing and getting together with a group of neighbours to cut wood to heat their homes. Bob also had a passion for airplanes. He loved to fly; he received his pilot’s licence in 1975. He owned 3 different planes, his last plane been Cessna 170 B. The family made many fishing trips to Namew lake with the plane. Bob and Doreen both enjoyed fishing and camping. They made a lot of trips up the Hanson Lake Road in the summer when the boys were young and this tradition continued once the grandchildren came along. Grandpa and grandma made very special memories for Jordan, Kendra and Landon every summer on their camping trips. Bob also enjoyed playing jokes on anyone he could. His favorite day of the year was April 1st, he would play jokes on as many people as he could.
In the fall of 2022 Bobs health deteriorated and was admitted to the Carrot River health centre. Were he received excellent care from the caring staff at the Carrot River Health Centre. Bob passed away April 7, 2025 at the Carrot River health centre. We are going to miss dads’ and grandpas’ sense of humor, his early morning phone calls to see “what’s up”. His great ideas such as, I can’t walk anymore but if I can get up in the combine I can run the combine, or if I still had my plane I could fly up to Namew.
Bob is survived by his son Darren (Colinda) grandson Jordon (Jaclyn) great grandchildren Aden and Sabrina. Son Eldon (Joanne) Granddaughter Kendra (Tyler) Landon (Austin).
He was predeceased by his wife Doreen Oct 2024, great grandson Mylo, brother Donald and his parents.
