Obituary of May Cox

Please share a memory of May to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Beatrice May Cox was born on her parents’ farm at Raymore, SK. Her parents, Albert and Sarah Swan, had moved there from England in the early 1900’s. She was the youngest of 5 children. She had two sisters, Margaret and Dorothy, as well as two brothers, Sid and Ted. May also had a sister who passed away in early infancy. All of them were born on the family farm at Raymore.

She moved with her parents and brother, Sid, to the White Clay district North East of Nipawin in August 1931. She remained in this area the rest of her life. She married Arthur Cox in 1944 – having a double wedding with her life long friend Florence Field (Collins). Arthur and May moved to their own farm and on Feb 19, 1953 their son Leslie was born. Leslie passed away in 1968.

Her main hobbies were gardening, old time dancing (usually twice a week, in Carrot River on Mondays and Nipawin on Saturdays), camping and getting together with friends. Some of the family and friends would visit, usually every weekend and enjoy a game of cards. May would always prepare a late lunch usually at midnight! After Arthur passed away in 1984, May spent winters in Nipawin and summers on the farm. May went on many bus tours, joined the Seniors, danced and bowled. With her knee giving out, she decided to buy a house and move to Nipawin. In later years, May moved to the care home of Ray Lynne Peters and then to Pineview Lodge.

She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Arthur, her son, Leslie, her parents, Albert and Sarah and her four siblings, Margaret, Dorothy, Sid, and Ted and an infant sister.

May leaves to treasure her memory, her nieces and nephews, her special friend Florence Collins and her card playing friends.
