Obituary of Robert Nakonechny

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert (Bob) Nakonechny was born to parents Peter Sr. and Anna Nakonechny on the old homestead in Choiceland, Saskatchewan. He passed away in Arborfield, SK on May 17, 2025.

Dad attended Purity #1 Country School until it closed in 1948, then he would ride in a caboose pulled by Virgil Burton horse team to attend Choiceland school. Where he attended until grade 10, before leaving for Alberta to work on the rigs.

Dad married Sharon Mooney and they had 4 children; Kelly, Brent, Jodi, and Mike. Dad and Sharon raised the children on the family farm outside of Choiceland. Though they spent a year from 1967 to 1968 where Dad, Sharon, Brent, and Kelly lived in Malta, while Dad worked in Saudi Arabia, and Libia

Our dad was a hard worker, from being a farmer to also working on the rigs overseas. He retired from the rig life between ‘83 and ‘84, but remained farming as long as he possibly and stubbornly could before going to a retirement community.  Dad enjoyed life even though at times it was hard, he had a smile on his face, a hand to lend, and a smart comment to be said. He liked to make people smile and laugh!

Dad loved his Saskatoon berries; he would always drive up with his truck and roll down the window and grab a couple hand fulls. But usually, you would see him on his lawnmower parked beside the bush sitting there enjoying his treats.  Dad liked a well-manicured lawn, the second a dandelion popped its yellow head out of the grass he was out there fighting the good fight. If you couldn’t find him, best bet he was somewhere on the lawnmower. I think he “almost” loved that lawnmower more than his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.  Dad also enjoyed ice fishing and hunting for deer.

What dad loved most of all was his son Mikey and his grandchildren. They were his world, his heart, his every breath. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for them. Every chance he got he was playing cards with them, bringing them with for coffee and crib in the morning, and making “Grandpas Eggs”. He also loved taking the grandkids out to teach them to drive. Which almost always ended up with milkshakes in their hands.  The grandkids like to reminisce over how on their drives, grandpa would joke about how the police were hiding in the bush/trees and that they better be good.

Dad is survived in legacy and love by his children; Kelly (Linda), Brent (Crystal), Jodi (Michael), and Mike. Grandchildren; Tristan, Alexa, Breanna, and Chayce. And step-grandchild; Destiny.

Deep in our Heart you'll always stay Loved and Missed every day.
