Obituary of Flora J. Stewart

Please share a memory of Flora J. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Flora J. ‘Sullie’ Stewart, ‘Red Thunder Woman’.  She was the 8th oldest child born to Johnny and Lena Stewart.  She peacefully passed away on June 19, 2025 at 8:00am at the Royal University Hospital.  Family members were with her the evening before, visiting her until her untimely death.

Mom attended school in Pine Bluff, SK.  She left the community to go further her education by completing Indian Social Work.  She also took Early Childhood Development to be the Cumberland House Cree Nation Day Care Director.  Mom was also a Social Development Administrator, working for the Band since the Band Office opened.

Mom did not have any hobbies in recent years due to her disability; however, she had previous hobbies in her younger energetic years.  These hobbies included beading, berry picking, traditional medicine picking, horseshoes, some fishing, camping, traveling, attending meetings, sweat lodges, story telling, sewing, visiting, and playing cribbage.  She was a member of the Cumberland House Cree Nation Elders Committee, Land Claims Committee, and NAMS Elder.

Mom leaves to mourn: her daughter, Jennifer (Byron) McGillivary and sons, David (Adrian) Stewart and Darryl Stewart; her granddaughter, Kari (Ary) Fiddler and her only great-grandchild, Arxson Woodward; her grandson, Tavian Stewart, whom she raised as her own; her granddaughters, Tesyina Dorion and Eden Camrin; and her grandsons, Aiden Laliberte and Carson Stewart.
