Obituary of Roman Zadorozny

Please share a memory of Roman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Roman was born to Dora (nee Derkach) and William Zadorozny at SEC.36, TP25, RGE10, W2ND in the Beaver Hills area, which is now called Hubbard Saskatchewan.

When Roman was age 6 the family moved from Hubbard to Nipawin Saskatchewan, where the family had procured more land for better farming. After settling in Nipawin, Roman began school at Luing School, one and half miles away from the farm. Roman quit school after grade 8 and began to run the farm with his mom and dad, where he became responsible for a great deal of the work.

Farming was Romans full time occupation and passion. When the farm work was completed, you could find Roman at the local curling rink where he curled regularly and competed in many local bonspiels.

Another passion of Romans was working at the church, Ukrainian Catholic Parish of all Saints in Nipawin. Roman served on the parish Executive in several capacities, usually as President. Roman loved to sing in the choir and could be seen up in the balcony proudly singing the selected hymns for the service. You could always count on Roman to help out at the churches weekly bingos, as well as assisting with catering for many events held at the church. Roman was very proud of the role he played, in the campaign to raise funds for a multi- million dollar project, a senior citizens complex to be built in Saskatoon.

Roman was always eager to volunteer, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 30 plus years. You could find him volunteering at Pancake breakfasts, flipping pancakes and serving you with a huge smile.

Over the years Roman enjoyed traveling and enjoying visiting the western United States, Hawaii on several occasions, as well as Mexico. He was always eager to travel to visit family far and near, including a family train trip out Ontario to celebrate Christmas, which held fond memories. He was always in attendance at family events, to celebrate weddings and anniversaries, as well as attending family and friends’ funerals to offer his support. You always knew you could count on Roman to be there.

Roman loved his sports. You could find him watching hockey, his favorite team the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as the curling bonspiels like the Brier and Scotties. A quick phone call with Roman after a game to discuss what he thought about the outcome, was always fun.

Roman is being welcomed home by his family and friends, what a great reunion this will be. Bless him for all the good he has done while on earth, he will be truly missed.

Predeceased by siblings Mary, Steve, Vera, Sally, Violet, and Zenia.

Survived by brothers Hank and Ivan, along with many nieces and nephews.

The family wish to express their gratitude to Eli Schermann, lifelong friend, for drives out to the country, hospital visits and always being a close friend.
