Obituary of Kim Douglas Rothwell
Please share a memory of Kim to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kim Douglas Rothwell was born to Wilfrid and Dorine (Fraser) Rothwell in Nipawin, SK. He was raised on the family farm in the Mossy Glen district between Garrick and Choiceland.
Kim started school in Choiceland, riding a bus driven by Gordon Wager. Kim later caught the bus, driven by Jack Olsen, to Nipawin L.P. Miller Comprehensive school.
In his younger years, Kim took part in 4-H raising several calves and later enjoyed doing mechanical work on his vehicles. Kim had a passion for farming at a very young age always knowing he would be a farmer. For several winters he worked with his chainsaw in the bush camps and was also employed by the Choiceland Dehy for a time. He also helped his brother Byrnne, who owned a vet clinic in Shellbrook, during calving season.
Kim and Jan (Baerwald) were married August 19, 1978. For the first few years, they lived in Choiceland. He farmed and they spent two winters in Edmonton where he was employed by Zazula Truck Body. In 1982, Kim and Jan moved to the family farm when Wilf and Dorine bought a house in Choiceland. They raised three sons on the farm – Kent, Kyle, and Tyler. The boys were very active in hockey and baseball; there was no shortage of tournament trips and great times.
In 2011, another joy entered Kim’s life with the arrival of his grandson Emmet. Emmet has spent many hours in and out of the shop benefitting from Grampa’s knowledge and skills.
With interest in his community, Kim supported the inception of Torch River Rail and was proud of its success. Kim had an interest in history, he was a collector of anything John Deere, old oil and tobacco tins, etc.
In recent years Kim enjoyed the company of peers at the Choiceland coffee shop where he, no doubt, learned a lot, and also dispensed his pearls of wisdom. He loved visiting and conversation and usually left you with a chuckle or a smile.
Kim was predeceased by parents, Dorine and Wilfrid; his son Kent; brothers Garry and wife Ksenia, and Byrnne and wife June; parents-in-law Harold and Joy; Sister-in-law Gay Holmen; and brother-in-law Dennis Chamberlain.
Kim will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Jan; their sons, Tyler (Kristen) and Kyle; grandson Emmet; his sisters, Lyla Chamberlain and Jayne (Bill) Stacey; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Brothers-in-law Del (Lois) Baerwald and Ken Holmen and sister-in-law Tracy Baerwald.
