Obituary of Margaret Jean Funk
Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peggy was born to James & Margaret Leslie of Spooner, SK. She attended Little Bridge School and when she was older, she worked in Nipawin as a waitress and in Gronlid Co-op until it closed.
In 1950, she met Frank Funk, the love of her life and they were married on August 1, 1951. They were married 68 years before Frank’s passing in 2020. They welcomed 5 children into their family – Betty, Bonnie, Ken, Sharon, and Vicky. They lived in Lost River and farmed there for many years. In 2013 they moved to Nipawin and resided at Riverside Manor. Peggy then moved to Pineview Lodge in May 2023, where she resided until her passing.
Peggy enjoyed gardening, helping Frank in spring and fall with seeding and harvesting. She had great talent when it came to cooking and baking. She made the best pies, cakes, cookies, bread and buns.
Peggy & Frank enjoyed square dancing and old-time dancing, where they made many new friends and learned a few new steps. To pass the winter months they would make quilts together – Frank would measure and re-measure and Peggy would sew up beautiful pieces of work. They also enjoyed going ice fishing to Deschambeault Lake with friends and family, to try and catch their limit of pickerel. Peggy passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 30, 2026 at Pineview Lodge, at the age of 94.
Peggy is survived by her children – Betty Cary and her son David; Bonnie (Horst) Wufka; Ken (Rose) Funk, their children – son Michael (Allison) Funk, daughters Jennifer (Kyle) Chartrand & Bev (Paul)Quenelle; Sharon (Rick) Peters – daughters Rebecca (Bubba) Funk & Erin (Jared) Riemer; Vicky McWatt – sons James & Jeremy Longworth.
Peggy is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren – Brooke, Benjamin, Danielle, Jaelyn, Kayla, Ashley, Brock, Cayden, Rylee, Hailey, Harper, Jase & Tate and 6 great-great-grandchildren – Olivia, Charlie, Jack, Henry, Beau and Reiner.
Peggy’s smiles, her loving hugs and huge heart will be forever missed by all of us.
