Obituary of Melinda Buck

Please share a memory of Melinda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lorraine Ellen “Melinda” Buck was born in Prince Albert Holy Family Hospital to Alpheus & Muriel Mckay. She grew up in Red Earth in her younger years before moving to Nipawin, Saskatchewan at the age of 16. She finished her Grade 12 Diploma at Carrot River High School. She also attended Key-way-tin Bible Institute out in Alberta for a brief time. In the late 80s, she attended Suntep to further her education and getting her teachers degree, and some years down the road she received her Suntep Diploma and had a promising career in teaching until her health started to slowly decline. During her years she also worked as a postal worker in Cumberland House for a number of years, and also worked as a Nutritional Worker at Charlebois School before she decided to finish off her teaching degree out in Prince Albert Suntep Institute. She had taught in a number of communities throughout her teaching career. She also taught in Red Earth on and off for a number of years and created a lot of work relationships with the staff and students throughout her time right up until her retirement.

In 1983, Lorraine and Mathew married and they both welcomed 2 sons into the world Aaron, and William. They resided in Cumberland House the majority of the boys’ lives until mom decided to attend Suntep to finish off her teaching degree in Prince Albert, with great success.

Melinda, for a number of years, was heavily involved with her sons Aaron and William’s minor hockey days alongside her husband up until the time of his passing. As the years progressed, Mom really enjoyed and loved fishing with her sons especially her grandchildren. All of her grandchildren were the beacon of her heart and life that brought her absolute love and joy to her life. She enjoyed camping as she took every chance she could to go camping with her family during those family camps. Mom loved to bake for her grandchildren; those were her favorite past times, having them by her side. After she retired, she focused on her health and the majority of her time was spending time with her grandchildren.

Melinda is survived by her sons Aaron Buck (Grandsons Owen B. and Issah W.), and William Buck (Granddaughter Sarah) with her loyal pets Star, Dot, and Putt-Putt the cat. Brothers Myles (Anita) Mckay, Gabriel (Margaret) Mckay, Murray & Wilbur Daniels, Darryl (Tanya) Young, Dwayne Moore and Curtis Nawaykayas, Sisters Marietta Bear, and Alvena Head. Her sister-in-law’s Victoria Buck and Linda Buck. Auntie Reta Nawaykayas. Special granddaughter, Perez Flett and Step-granddaughters Priscilla Bird & Evangeline Issac. Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews too numerous to mention as she considered them all her children.

Melinda is pre-deceased by her husband Mathew Joshua Buck, her parents Alpheus and Muriel Mckay, In-Laws George (Mabel) Buck, Grandparents Donald (Matilda) Mckay, Francis (Lydia) Flett, and Darius Nawaykayas. Brothers and Sisters, Duncan (Margaret), Gideon, Julius, Noah, Ernest and Laura Mckay. Brother-in-Laws Reverend Park, William and Albert Buck and Isaiah Head. Sister-in-Laws Sarah, Myra, Mary and Elizabeth Buck and Hannah Mckay. Nephews, Ericson Bear, George Buck and Nieces Jessica, Nina, and Courtney Buck. Uncles Michael Mckay and Auntie Kathleen Head.
