Obituary of Lennard Douglas Morin

   Born in The Pas, Manitoba, on February 18, 1947, Lennard was raised in Cumberland House, Saskatchewan, by his beloved grandparents, Joseph and Virginia Morin. There he developed a deep connection to his Métis heritage, faith, community, and the northern way of life. After completing his education, he trained as a welder in Winnipeg, where he met and married the love of his life, Ruth. Together they raised four children and built a family that remained the center of his world.

   Lennard dedicated his life to service and leadership. He served as Northern Region I Area Director for the Métis Nation, Mayor of Cumberland House, Trustee with Northern Lights School Division No. 113, President of the local Fur Trappers Association, and a devoted church member. He was a respected advocate for Métis people, veterans, education, and northern communities. His efforts helped establish the Métis Veterans Monument in Batoche, and his determined campaign for a bridge to Cumberland House, including a walk to Regina carrying a wooden cross he built himself, brought provincial attention to the community's needs. He was later recognized as a lifetime member of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA). A strong believer in education, he encouraged others to pursue learning and worked tirelessly to support students, families, and future generations. Lennard also loved sports and recreation, believing they provided opportunities for young people to grow and succeed. Above all, he will be remembered for his generous heart, unwavering faith, and dedication to family and community. He made people feel welcome, valued, and cared for wherever he went.

   Lennard was predeceased by his parents, Philomene Morin and Roy Chaboyer; his grandparents, Joseph and Virginia Morin; his sister, Linda Belair; his brother, Ronald Morin Sr.: brother-in-law Ron Belair; and numerous relatives and friends.

   He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ruth; children Sheila (Adrian), Melanie (Corey), Philip (Margaret), and Vanessa (Kirby); his 20 grandchildren Mindy, Syerra, Rylee, Autumn, Chantal, Camryn, Serenity, Lexee, Kinley, Sunny, Sterling, Lenny, Layne, Jason, Keanu, Chandler, Corey Rylan, Justice, Aaron, and Kurtis; 33 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; siblings Joseph Lambert, Donna Morin (Roger), Lorraine Chartrand, and Melody; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and community members.

   Lennard's legacy is one of faith, family, service, and Métis pride. His influence will live on through the people he inspired, the causes he championed, and the community he loved so dearly. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honoured.
