Don Meszaros

Obituary of Don Meszaros

Donald Mike Meszaros was born on February 1, 1949 in Wakaw, Saskatchewan to Annie and Michael Meszaros.  He was raised in Bjorkdale where many memories were made with friends and family.  It was in Bjorkdale that he met his wife Carol, who he married on January 31, 1970.  Donald and Carol were married for 53 years and had two children, Patricia and Anita.

Donald started his career with the Department of Highways cutting grass at the early age of 16. For a short stint, Donald worked construction and at a machine shop.  In 1970, Donald returned to Highways, working in the office at La Ronge, the beginning of a 35-year career.  He worked as a grader operator on the Hanson Lake Road and La Ronge.  After training at the Churchill, The Pas and Winnipeg airports, Donald returned to La Ronge as an airport operator and then spent many years as the airport manager in Hudson Bay.  He ended his career as an area supervisor in Yorkton.  Many colleagues became life-long friends.

During his retirement years in Nipawin, Donald enjoyed many hobbies such as watching sports, reality shows and news, playing solitaire, cutting wood, hunting, fishing, gardening, making lists for his family to do, and going to auction sales and garage sales.  He was a man of many skills and talents.  If he did not know how to do something, he just figured it out.  More than anything, he enjoyed talking with others.  He could walk into a room full of strangers and start up a lengthy conversation.

Left to cherish Donald’s memory are his siblings: Ruby, Elmer, Emily and Garry; his wife Carol; his daughters Patricia and Anita (Barry); his grandson Brenden; his brothers-in-law: Garry (Louise) and Wayne (Tanis); as well as nieces and nephews.

Family Service will be held at a later date.
