Obituary of Brent Freedman

Brent Freedman was born in Nipawin in December 1959. He was the youngest of five children born to Teddy and Margaret Freedman. He grew up on the family farm in Ratner and graduated from Gronlid School in 1978; he spent his summers working in Saskatoon at Roto Thresh, servicing farm equipment. After high school, Brent took up farming and worked at CSP (canola crushing plant) in Nipawin. During the winters, he worked at Wapiti Valley Ski Area, where he played numerous roles from ski instructor, to snow maker and manager over the 24 years he spent working there. He was involved in the local Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Board, the Gronlid School Board, the Wapiti Valey Ski Area Board and the APAS Board for many years.

On April 11, 1987, Brent married Gerri Loeffler from Choiceland, SK. They were married in Nipawin, where they lived for a short time before they moved in 1987 to their home on NW 30-48-16, W2nd in the Ratner area, where he built the farm that he was so proud of.   They had two children; Tavia and Mitchel.

Brent was always keeping busy. He played fastball with the Ratner Jets for many years. He enjoyed spending his time fishing, skiing, golfing, playing pickleball, travelling and playing games. He watched lots of baseball and football, and had great times attending ball games in Toronto and Seattle. He and Gerri spent the majority of their winters in Mexico, and spent as much time as they could at Candle Lake in the summers with friends and family.

Brent hated the cold, and thus they took up travelling. They took may trips to California, Mexico, Hawaii, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Brents great love was Zihuantanejo in Mexico where he played pickleball, met lots of great friends and enjoyed time with family.

Brent passed away suddenly, in his home on October 31, 2023.

He was predeceased by: his father, Teddy; his brother, Joseph in infancy; his father and mother-in-law, John and Martha; his sister-in-law, Brenda; and his brother-in-law, Harvey.

Brent is survived by: his wife Gerri; his daughter, Tavia; his son, Mitchel (Krystal); his mother, Margaret; his siblings and their families: Sharlene, Allan, and his twin brother, Barry (Lisa); his brother-in-law Ken (Esther); and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
