Obituary of Margaret Joinson

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret Joinson was born to Anna and Gerhard Hildebrand on April 20, 1942. The family lived in the Petagain area and eventually moved to Carrot River where she spent the rest of her life.

On June 3, 1959 Margaret married the “boy next door”, Ron Joinson. In 1961, they started their family. Randy was born first and shortly thereafter in 1962, Tammy came along. Six years later they decided to add to their clan and in 1968 Connie arrived.

Margaret’s very first job was as a telephone operator at the young age of 16. Once the first 2 children came along she stayed at home to care for them, but whenever needed would be out at the Joinson’s Quick Freeze to lend a hand.

Mom’s first love was horses, this spread to her family and they found themselves moving to an acreage just outside of town in 1972 where not only did they raise horses but all species of farm animals. The summers lead to many horse shows and a lot of chicken plucking in the fall. Margaret also took on work at the neighboring peat moss, owned and operated by her good friends at the time. She often would drive the big machinery needed to pick up the moss out at the bog.

In 1980, the family moved out of town even further as Ron took on a new career of farming and looking after cattle. They continued to raise horses and mom grew a great interest in the horticultural world.

She started working at Fowler’s Greenhouse, just down the road from where we lived. Her gardens were immaculate!

Ron and Margaret moved back to the acreage in 1984 where they renovated the old house to be the home they dreamed of having. Mom began working at the Pasquia Special Care Home in Carrot River in 1985 where she retired from in 2005. She thoroughly enjoyed working there as she could visit all the residents and spread her joy and friendly, caring nature.

She was not one to sit still so after retiring from the Home, she took up many different hobbies always having to do with creating something! From doilies to crochet dresses, rugs, dolls, embroidered towels, quilting….to name a few! She would end up with so many creations she would eventually take them to a craft sale to find homes for her products. Going hand in hand with this, she was also a collector of sorts! Anyone who entered her home could attest to this.

During this time, she also found she enjoyed caregiving and would lend a hand wherever needed, caring for a few elderly folks in and around Carrot River. Margaret was one to always want to comfort people. This side of her personality brought her to work part time at the Heritage Funeral Home, where she made many friendships and truly helped her to feel fulfilled in her journey.

Margaret is lovingly remembered by her children; Randy (Della) Joinson, Tammy (Garth) Walker, Connie (Elliott) Joinson. Her Grandchildren; Chad (Amanda), Connor (Sara), Chantelle (David), Shelby (Shalane), Brandon (Natasha), Kendra (Brock). Great grandchildren Cash, Kian and Colt. Brother, Abe Hildebrand. In-Laws; Peter Siemens, Tony Tanasichuk, Cori (Chris) O’Neill and Jerry (Lisa) Joinson. As well as many nieces and nephews.
