Obituary of Marie Johanne Evans

Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marie Johanne Olson was born on October 22, 1921, in Ambrose, North Dakota.  John Olson, her father, had immigrated from Sweden to Minnesota in 1910.  Eugenia Holth, her mother, had immigrated with her parents from Norway to North Dakota about 1908.  Marie had three sisters, Christine, Martha, and Ruby, as well as a brother, Reidar Holth.  The Olson family immigrated from North Dakota to Archerwill, Saskatchewan, in 1925.

Marie grew up on the family farm near Archerwill.  The neighbors, the Johnsons, were close family friends.  Marie attended school in Archerwill, after which she went to work for the Evans family on their farm near White Fox.  In 1939, she married Frederick Mathew Evans, one of the Evans brothers.  Fred and Marie established a farm near Torch River and had a son, Wayne Frederick John Evans.  They moved to British Columbia for 3 years during WWII and after the war returned to Torch River to establish a new farm.  As they became older, they lived in Nipawin and Saskatoon at various times, while still maintaining and working the family farm.  Fred passed away in March 2001.  In December 2010, Marie's failing health meant a move into the Arborfield Special Care Home until her death on January 1, 2017, at the age of 95.  She wrote many poems about nature, the beauty of Saskatchewan, her life, and family.

She is survived by her son Wayne (Sandra) of Redmond, WA; two grandsons, Glenn Evans (Djordjija) of Kirkland, WA, and Patrick Evans (Nicole) of Fall City, WA; as well as four grandchildren, Maja, Alexander, Danijela, and Tijana of Kirkland.  She was predeceased by her husband and sisters.
