Obituary of Stacey Starkell

Please share a memory of Stacey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anastasia (Stacey) Catherine Starkell on October 14, 2020 at the age of 62 years. Stacey was born, as an only child, to Paul and Pollyanna Hawryluk in September 1958 in Quill Lake, SK. She attended both elementary and high school in Quill Lake and held her first job after high school at the Quill Lake Credit Union. Stacey started dating Brian, the love of her life, in 1976, and they were wed on July 22, 1978. Stacey and Brian chose to move to Codette, SK where they were blessed with and raised their four children – Erinn, Tammy, Cory and Angela. Later, in 2008, Stacey and Brian would move to Nipawin. Stacey was employed at the Nipawin Credit Union (Diamond North Credit Union) for 36 years until her retirement in 2017. While working at the Credit Union, she held various positions over the years including Teller; Back Room Clerk; and Marketing, HR and Training Coordinator. Stacey was well known for her contributions to a variety of community organizations including the Nipawin Veselii Dancers (secretary), Codette History Book Committee (editor), and as founder and publisher of the Codette Star. Following her retirement, Stacey eagerly and quickly filled her days full with her hobbies and passions. She maintained a beautiful and prosperous garden and loved tending to her flowers; she captured the most amazing photographs and even had some of them chosen for display in the Credit Union offices in Nipawin; she loved immersing herself deep into our family genealogy; and sharing and celebrating her love of her Ukrainian heritage. For 31 years, Stacey could proudly share that she overcame one of her most difficult, and personal battles as a cancer survivor, until her most recent diagnosis in March 2020. Stacey was a loving and dedicated daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, baba, and friend and she cherished each of these relationships deeply. As the matriarch of our family, Stacey’s undeniable presence will be greatly missed. Stacey is predeceased by her parents Paul and Pollyanna Hawyrluk; daughter Erinn Starkell; and brother-in-law Calvin Starkell. Stacey will be forever remembered and loved by her best friend and loving husband of 42 years, Brian; her children and grandchildren - Tammy (Paul) Langford (Ainsley and Mila), Cory Starkell, and Angela (Jeremy) Soloshy (Brynnlee); her special sisters (“seesters”) JoAnn (Paul) Pacik and Darlene (Murray) Sobchyshyn and their families; in-laws Eva and Robert Starkell; brother-in-law Aubrey Starkell and family; sister-in-law Debbie Starkell and family; aunt Anne Michaluk; and numerous cousins and friends. Stacey’s family would like to thank the staff at the Nipawin Hospital, her Home Care Team, all her medical team, Cory, Lisa and staff at Centre Street Drugs, and Rosemarie and staff at the Heritage Funeral Home for all their care and support during Stacey’s illness. A private graveside celebration will be held at Elk Hill Cemetery on Saturday, October 17, 2020.
