Obituary of William 'Bill' Lindberg
William “Bill” Lindberg, age 85, formerly of Nipawin, Saskatchewan passed on to glory suddenly on Thursday evening, May 19, 2022. He graduated from Fosston High School in 1954 and was ordained as a minister of the Gospel in May, 1958 after graduating from the Full Gospel Bible Institute in Eston.
He met his loving wife, Irene, at FGBI & they both graduated in May ’58. They married in June, 1958.
They immediately began their full-time service for the Lord when Bill became pastor of a church in Leader. In 1964, they were called to pastor the Nipawin Apostolic Church where they served until the summer of 1970.
In preparation for the move to Texas, Bill bought an old yellow school bus & with the help of their good friend, Rheinhold Schriner, they converted it into a moving van. They also built a pop-up RV trailer out of plywood that served as additional storage for the move. (Bill was an inventor at heart. To him, there was no such thing as a scrap piece of metal or useless length of wire. He just hadn’t figured out what he needed it for, yet.)
In Mission, Texas, Bill & new missionary Mel Hanson helped each other build their families’ houses. During those seven years, Bill built the house, attended Spanish language school and worked with Mel doing roofing in Corpus Christi after a hurricane. He also worked with missionary Irving Gillett in various churches in northern Mexico.
In the summers of 1974 & 1975, the Lindberg family traveled to Guatemala City where Bill taught at a small Bible school, training young pastors. After Guatemala’s devastating earthquake on February 4th , 1976, Bill filled his pickup with donated food & supplies and headed to Guatemala, working with a group on the humanitarian relief & reconstruction effort. By the summer of 1977, Bill & Irene felt called to full time missionary work in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Bill & Irene continued their work as missionaries in Guatemala as their kids graduated & headed back to Texas to attend university. They later moved to San Salvador, El Salvador to work with new churches that had been planted by the Guatemalan churches. They truly loved the people they ministered to and with, in Central America.
After the passing of his wife Irene in September, 2002, Bill asked the Lord to send him his ‘Rebecca’. The Lord brought Lorraine Kerr into his life and they were married in April, 2003.
Bill attempted to retire when he returned to Canada in ‘04, but served as interim pastor in Athabasca & later pastored Rosetown Community Church for 3.5 years. Bill & Lorraine also opened a gift, art & jewelry store in Duncan, BC where they often had opportunities to share the Gospel & pray with clients.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Letitia “Letty” Lindberg; his wife of 44 years, Irene; his brother & sister-in-law Charles “Chuck” & Joyce Lindberg & their infant son, Bobby; his brother Dean’s wife, Beverly Lindberg & their son, John.
