Obituary of Charles 'Ken' Whitrow

Charles Kenneth (Ken) Whitrow Well into his 96th year, Ken peacefully passed away on Saturday September 24, 2022. Charles Kenneth (Ken) was born in December, 1925. He was the 3rd and youngest child born to Blanche and Charlie Whitrow. Being the only boy, Ken went everywhere with his dad. He learned the importance of hard work, taking on chores at a young age. Ken developed a natural way and love for working with horses alongside his dad by age 6. Dad’s unwavering faith in God guided him through many life's challenges. Over the years, Ken worked at several jobs including the construction of the Alaska Highway. In 1957, they made Nipawin their permanent home. Ken worked for the town Maintenance until his retirement in 1988. Dad wanted to be closer to family so they moved to Lashburn. Ken was a hands-on father and Grandpa, sharing his many skills with family, grandchildren and church community serving on the board of Nipawin Bible Institute and Torch Trail Camp for years. Dad provided a major help in getting Rod’s autobody business going in its early years. Remembering events, dates and even names years later, made Ken a truly natural story teller. Whether it was about mechanics, machinery, farming, constriction, sports, fishing trips or his favorite horse Pat, Ken could capture the imagination of his audience especially that of his grandchildren. Ken is survived by his loving children; Floyd (Margret), Eldon (Shirley), Judy Vandenbogerd (Nick), Rod (Joan) and Dan (Gayle), Dennis Edwards (Lori); 15 grandchildren and 41 Great Grandchildren. Ken was predeceased by his wives Wilma (Edwards) 1965 and Bernice (Nelson) 2001. Gave side service to be held October 1, 2022 at 11:00 am at Mabel Hill Cemetery, Nipawin Sk. Heritage Funeral Homes will be in charge of arrangements. Donations in memory of Ken may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
