Obituary of Donald William McKay

Donald was born in November 1941 to Roderick and Melanie McKay (Dorion). He received his education at Charlebois School. He went on to complete the Integrated Resource Management, Conservation Officer #12, retiring after 27 years of service. He loved the Saskatchewan River Delta. Dad took pride in his career. He instilled his work ethic to his children and grandchildren. He worked in many different areas: Underground Miner-Blaster, E.B. Campbell Dam, Fire Fighter Crew, Sawmill, Farm, Self Taught Mechanic, Taxi Driver, Fire Instructor, Council Member. He served the community well, being of service meant the youth had opportunities. He had many friends from youth to elders. He made sure that he had a contribution for community financial support. He loved his many walks (with Annie). He pushed himself to his ability, walking 20km was his goal for several years. Donald married Virginia (McKenzie) on March 5th, together they were blessed with 5 children (Survived by): Kelvin (Wilma), Gerri aka Chicki , Donald Jr (Tammy), Laura (Dan), Scott (Wanda). They also helped raise Deanna (Jarret), Kerstan (Kaylynn), Rod (Roxanne). Blessed with 27 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Richard Nabess (Medusa), Redman Dorion(Nikki). His loving admiration for his family was evident daily. He had a special bond with his son-in-law Dan. They had their early morning visits, where Dan heard stories of his late Dad. Dad was grateful for the mutual respect. He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia; his loving parents, Rod & Melanie McKay; in-laws, Bill & Florence McKenzie; his brother, Phillip McKay; his sisters, Marie Seaton and Audrey Nippi; his brothers-in- law, Percy McKenzie, Louis McKenzie, Hilliard McKenzie; and his sisters-in-law, Lizette McKenzie, Florence McKay, Mary McKenzie. Also Survived by: his sister Catherine McKay and family; brother Laurier McKay and family; sister-in-law, Marie Louise McKenzie and family; brother-in-law, FB Star Leonard McKenzie (Marie); McKay Cousins; McKenzie families; nieces & nephews; and friends Joey Dorion, Stan Merasty, Velma Crane and family, Philomene Chaboyer and family.
