Dorothy Larson

Obituary of Dorothy Larson

Dorothy Irene was born in August 1932 iIn Nipawin, Sask. at the Lady Grey Hospital. She was the sixth child, second daughter, of eight children to Grenvil and Mabel Gilroy.

Dorothy attended school in Nipawin. After her schooling, she worked at the Nipawin Hospital. Dorothy married Alvin Larson of Pontrilas, SK on July 6th, 1950. Alvin and Dorothy lived and worked in Pontrilas, had a short stint at farming in Crooked River (it never quit raining), then moved north of Choiceland to begin farming in 1956. While living on the farm, Dorothy had many jobs in town such as cleaning the bank and credit union buildings, many individual homes, and other businesses as needed. Dorothy was active for many years in the Lutheran Ladies Aid and always found strength in her faith.

In 2007, Dorothy moved off the farm and into Placid Place, seniors housing in Choiceland. In December of 2022 Dorothy moved into the Arborfield care home. Dorothy lived for a clean and orderly house and yard. She loved all flowers and grew beautiful begonias. Dorothy hated and despised dandelions and spent many hours digging them out all around Placid Place.

Dorothy’s life revolved around her children and grandchildren. It made her day whenever anyone stopped in for a visit, a cup of coffee, or to go for lunch.

Dorothy Larson passed away May 13, 2023 in The Arborfield Special Care Lodge.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alvin in 2009;  and her infant son, Dale in 1955.
