Leo Roy Morin, born in January 1958, left his earthly home to be with his Saviour Jesus Christ on November 26, 2023. Leo was the eldest son of Rachel and Horace Morin and the eldest grandchild of Margaret and Peter Buck. Leo was a proud Birch River Settlement member and Cumberland House community member.
Leo met the love of his life, Rose Morin nee Settee, in Cumberland House, SK, and they were married on October 18, 1975, until her death on December 06, 2020. Leo and Rose had one son, Carter, their miracle baby, and witnessed him become a man of strong family values. When Leo's health began to deteriorate, Carter cared for his father. Leo's younger brother, Floyd, was his big brother's constant companion. Even when things were tough for Floyd, he would always help care for Leo.
Leo was recognized as having a strong work ethic his entire life. He began working at the tender age of 14 at the local sawmill. He continued to work consistently across different locations as a heavy equipment operator. His siblings remember him as a small boy pointing to the Sears Roebuck catalogue and wanting a big Tonka truck. He knew what he wanted, and he would go for it. Leo was fondly remembered for his work as a crew boss for SERM and ran a tight ship!
Leo had many friends that he spent time with. He enjoyed hunting with friends Edward Cook and the late Harvey McKenzie, Lloyd Young, Cyril Young (Senor), and Gordon Buck. Leo loved to share funny stories and lovingly teased his friends and families. No one was spared from him stopping his truck from chatting, teasing or encouraging you if you were his friend.
He leaves to mourn him his son Carter Morin; matriarch Margaret Michelle; siblings Barb Morin; Wilma Morin; Darlene/Billy Wiens; Julie Morin; Floyd Morin; Trini/Mabel Morin and aunties Madeline Buck, Georgina Budd, and Jean Morin. Leo also leaves to mourn his many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
After Leo's wife passed, he began an earnest journey in seeking the Lord and found supernatural peace in his loneliness. He has gone on to meet his wife, Rose; his parents, Rachel and Horace Morin; in-law Alice and J.B Settee; brother Edward Ech-wach Morin, Brian Achoos Morin; sister-in-law Belinda Morin; brother-in-law Gordon Buck; grandparents Peter and Margaret Buck, Virginia and Pierre Morin; auntie Lucy and uncle Roy Fosseneuve; auntie Maria and uncle Marcel Fiddler, auntie Valendie Lathlin-Buck, uncle Charles Buck, nieces and nephews, Pearl Morin, Randy Morin, Clyde McCallum, Randy Buck, Kristen Buck, Debbie Roy, Phyliss Fosseneuve, Lorraine Chaboyer, Bernadette Fosseneuve, P.J Fosseneuve, Leonard Michelle, George Michelle and uncle Joe Michelle.
We thankfully acknowledge the Nipawin Hospital, Village of Cumberland House, Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Cumberland House Cree Nation, Community volunteers, donors and all loved ones who made the journey to Cumberland House to send off our beloved Leo.
