I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Norm. Joanne, it was nice to visit with you and Norm several years ago during your travel east. It was the first time I had seen Norm since 'training days' when he and I carried each other back and forth across the gym. He will be missed. Rest in peace Norm

Our sincerest condolences to the Thomson family...We met Norm and Joanne at Ginny and Rob's in Kingsville only a few times but each time were delighted by Norm's stories. With the twinkle in his eye and the mischievous grin, you always knew it was going to be a good one!

I had not heard from or seen Norm for at least 15 years. He called me in November and said he had some treatments in Saskatoon in December and would like to have a coffee. He told me he had terminal cancer and he wanted to get together one last time. I told the people that would have known him about his situation and to call him.
We never did have that coffee. What a shame that we did not get that last visit. I am sure that we would have had a long conversation with plenty of laughs.
My condolences to you Joanne and to the entire family. May Norm rest in peace and God hold him close.

I was so sorry to hear of this news, Joanne. Norm was such a huge part of our community and a real trooper putting up with our shenanigans! I’m grateful for the occasional ride home too! He had a great big smile and an even bigger heart. Sending so much love to you and your family during this very difficult time. ❤️

I take this opportunity to pass on my condolence to the family of Norm Thomson. I had the pleasure of being on course with Norm at Depot division. Norm was one of those gifted individuals that could entertain a group of people with stories on some of his experiences. Enjoyed the evening with him entertaining us, and still laugh when I hear his name.. May God bless his family.
Respectfully Rory A. Flemming

Norm and Joanne welcomed me into their home when my dad ( Mike)was stationed in Maple Creek to serve once again with Norm. I moved down early to start school. I am forever thankful for the support that they offered me. What a wonderful family to have had the pleasure to know. My heartfelt condolences to Joanne, Tracey, Scott and to the entire extended family.

I am so sorry to hear of Norm’s passing. We had many good times in Big River so many years ago but those memories stay fresh in my mind. It seems like we have lost the spirit of the force in our Troop. When I was tired of marching in straight lines and putting up with the abuse of our Drill Instructors. Norm was there telling me not to let them get to me. His unmatched pride in the force was truly inspiring and helped me through training. I'm sure Norm will be waiting to welcome the rest of us. I’ve really been thinking of both Norm and Joanne since I heard the sad news. I’m remembering many kindnesses. But I also remember the time my mom was with us for Jeff’s graduation. I cannot remember the exact circumstances, but somehow Norm got wind of a disagreement I had with her or I had tried to tell her that she should do something, or I’m not sure exactly what had happened. Anyway, a bit later we were startled to see a police cruiser pulling into the driveway, and into the house came Norm, brandishing pamphlets on “elder abuse”. Both he and my mom were just delighted. I’m not sure who laughed harder.
It was a great prank.
Thinking of all the family and sending my deepest sympathy.
Joan Hansen

Norm was an icon with our Troop 8 in RCMP training in 1968. Many memories come to light; some good some bad but we were like family and to this day nothing has changed. I will post memories later. For now sincere condolences Joanne and family. We are always here for you.
