Obituary of Dennis Francais

Dennis grew up on a farm south of Sintaluta, where they raised dairy cattle, hogs, and chickens as well as grain farmed. He often talked about how the barn had running water for the livestock before the house did. He also shared how he had to milk 3 cows every morning at age 6 before going to school.

From a young age “Sam” as he was known by had a love for hunting. He would hunt rabbits which his mom would make stew with, Prairie chickens, ducks, and all the big game he could.

After completing high school in Indian Head he stayed on the farm for a short time before moving to Regina for work. He started out as a delivery driver for Fort Ignition as well as an Electrical Mechanic before making the move to Nipawin.

Dennis along with his brother Vic became business partners and opened Nipawin Parts and Industrial. Nipawin was chosen based on the local hunting and fishing in the area, which he was proud to call home for 45 years. Anyone who knew “Sam” knew his great love for the outdoors and hunting.

“Sam” became involved in the community by serving as a volunteer fire fighter, scout leader, fish and game measurer, and Knights of Columbus member. Snowmobile poker rallies and being involved in the winter festival was always a must. He never sat still for long, he always liked to be busy.

When the kids Garrett and Michelle came along he couldn’t wait to teach and share his love of hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. There was always a friendly competition during the hunting season as to who got bragging rights until the next year. He was always so proud of them.

He leaves to treasure his memory Maureen (Cossette) his wife of 45 years, son Garrett with wife Amy and their 3 children Sophie, Hannah, and Nic, and daughter Michelle with husband Kevin.

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him and his memory will live on in those left behind.
