Obituary of Elizabeth Buck

Elizabeth Mariam “Tootsie” Buck was born in Pine Bluff Indian Reserve in December, 1955, to Agnes Settee and John Baptiste Laliberte Sr. Elizabeth was born into a large family of 16 siblings. She passed away at the Regina General hospital on May 6th, 2024, at the age of 68 years.

Tootsie grew up in Pine Bluff until the age of 6 years old. She later moved to Cumberland House where she resided much of her life. She was raised by Frank Laliberte and Agnes Settee. Tootsie grew up in the cultural way of hunting, trapping and fishing. She loved her language and was fluent in Cree. Into her childhood and teenage years, she attended residential school at Duck Lake Saskatchewan. This is where she attained her education.

In past years, Tootsie was employed as a home care worker for C.H.C.N. band elders. Throughout her life she was a fire fighter and certified cook for the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment. Tootsie loved working as a suppression member and was often employed throughout the spring and summer seasons. Tootsie had many interests and hobbies. She had a passion for the canoe. She often paddled with her friends Florence McAuley, Niomi Carriere, Caroline Carriere and Marilyn Laliberte. Tootsie competed in various paddling functions such as NAIG, Saskatchewan Centennial Canoe Quest 2005, local community canoe races and Indian days in the Pas Manitoba. She liked biking around, playing bingo, playing cards with family and friends, cooking at cultural and community events. She attended and participated in JB days, Samuel Hearne days and most enjoyed sports days. Tootsie loved her family, especially her grandchildren as she enjoyed spending time with them. Tootsie will be missed by those who loved and cared for her. We want to thank everyone who supported us during our difficult time.
