Obituary of Cote McKay

Cote McKay came into this world during the gentle thaw of spring, welcomed by Ferlin and Diane at 1:00 a.m. at Nipawin Union Hospital. A joyous baby with eyes that looked like he was tired, he quickly earned the affectionate nickname "sleepy eyes" from his family. From the start, Cote was a devoted son, his heart closest to his mother, who was always by his side throughout his life's journey.

Known for his infectious sense of humor, Cote had a natural gift for bringing laughter to those around him. He was the person you could count on, ready to lend a helping hand or share a moment of joy. He shared a close bond with his siblings. His relationship with his sister, Valendie, was especially close; she affectionately called him ‘Beb.’

Cote's school days at Charlebois Community School and Mount Royal Collegiate were marked by his passion for long-distance running. His determination and skill brought him victory in numerous races across Saskatchewan and OCN, often with his proud mother cheering him on. Apart from athletics, Cote found joy in documentaries, eagerly sharing his knowledge with family and spending time gaming with his brothers Ashley and Stephen.

On July 7th, 2024, surrounded by his beloved mother and big sister, Cote peacefully transitioned to be with our Lord and Savior, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love. Never far from his understanding of the gospel, Cote would return to faith in Jesus as Savior close to the end of his life.

Cote leaves behind his precious sons, Jase Rueben, Jaiden Cote, and Tyler Walter Cote; his unwaveringly supportive mother, Diane; his dad Ferlin (Laureen); and his siblings: Aaron, Ashley (Melanie), Valendie (Daniel), Stephen (Tessa), Sheri-Lyn, Dakota, Cole, Cree, and Holden. He is remembered fondly by his aunts and uncles: Melvin, Noreen (Perry), Treena (Robert), Elmer (Melissa), Andrea (Angus), Earl, Delores, Randy, Margaret (Donavon), Glen; his best friend Philip McAuley; including 28 nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends who will continue to honor his memory.

Cote was predeceased by his maternal grandparents: Roy and Lucy Fosseneuve; and paternal grandparent: Rose McKay; and aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides.

In his passing, Cote's family becomes the guardians of his memory, ensuring that his spirit of love, laughter, and faith lives on in their hearts and in the stories they share.
