Obituary of Marion McBain

Marion Alice (Johnson) McBain, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away with her family nearby on September 4, 2024, at the Nipawin Hospital.

Marion was born in May 1931 to John and Helga Johnson in Santa Ana, California.  When she was 4, they moved to Helga’s farm, east of White Fox.

She met Donald McBain when she was 17 and they began to date.  They were married July 16, 1952.  They had 3 children:  Heather, David and Randal.   She completed her grade 12 and gained employment doing bookkeeping and office jobs.  She worked for Mr. Bradshaw at the Village of White Fox and at the Credit Union before she was married. After the kids were born, she worked for Hayes Hardware and was a part time treasurer for the church. She was a CGIT and Messenger leader when the kids were young.  She also was an assistant leader of 4-H homecraft sewing, as well as on the Air Cadet Civilian Committee. She took a one-year business education course in 1973. After she graduated, she worked at the Co-op office in Nipawin.  She was also Don’s bookkeeper for all the businesses he ran throughout the years.  Marion and Don farmed, along with their sons, for many years.

She liked curling, snowmobiling, and horseback riding.  In their later years, she and Don travelled a lot with McConnaughey Tours.  She really enjoyed those bus trips and the friends they made. She was a phenomenal gardener.  Her flowers and yard displays were always beautiful.  She spent many hours tending to all her plants.

She was a beautiful person who loved so much.

Left to cherish her memory are her children:  Heather (Richard) Waldner, David (Krista) McBain and Randal McBain; her grandchildren: Jody (Glynis) Waldner, Kelly (David) Morin, Jami (Ryan) Snorro, Tyson (Samantha) McBain, and Kacey McBain (Ryan): her greatgrandchildren:  Mason, Sam and Paige; Taya and Tenley; Brielle and Emerson; her sister: Virginia Strasser and her children Barry, Gail, Trudy, Joe, Alan and Diana and their families; her sister-in-law Stella McBain and her family;  and many McBain and Wright nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Helga Johnson; her husband, Donald; her brothers-in-law Gordon and his wife Betty, Alvin McBain and Paul Strasser; sister-in-law Marie Wright and her husband Vern; nephews Lorne and Doug McBain; and other cherished family and friends.
