Obituary of Doreen Lindsay

Mae “Doreen” Lindsay was born in July 1936 in Arborfield, Saskatchewan to Agnes and Gordon Grassing.  Doreen was raised on the farm in the Connell Creek District, with her siblings Muriel, Irene, Orval (Butch) and Stan.  Doreen attended school at Connell creek and Arborfield. As a child Doreen developed a strong work ethic helping on the family farm. Which continued after her marriage to Robert Lindsay Dec 4 1957 in Arborfield Saskatchewan.  Doreen and Bob purchased land in moose range. In 1962 resided there till 1973. They sold their land in moose Range and moved north of Arborfield where they continued to farm.  Doreen worked off the farm as well at the Carrot River coop, MacLeods store, Cummings Red and White and the Bank of Montreal in Arborfield for 23 yrs. Doreen retired from the bank in 1992.  After retiring from the bank Doreen continued to help Bob on the farm.

Doreen and Bob had two sons Darrin (1965) and Eldon (1967).  As a family they enjoyed camping and fishing in the summer. They made many trips to Namew Lake and up the Hanson Lake Road. They also enjoyed ice fishing at Namew Lake in the winter.  This tradition continued after the three grandchildren came along: Jordan, Kendra and Landon.  All three grandchildren enjoyed spending time with grandma and grandpa and created many special memories.  Doreen enjoyed sewing, woodworking, and growing a very large garden. She canned and froze every last vegetable in the garden. Doreen also loved to bake.   The deepfreeze was always full of goodies. Nobody ever left Doreen’s house hungry.  Bob and Doreen also enjoyed playing cards with the neighbours in the winter months.  They also enjoyed old-time dancing. Doreen was admitted into long term care in 2017 where she received excellent compassionate care from the staff at both Arborfield special care lodge and at the Carrot River Health Centre. Doreen passed away Oct 1, 2024 at the carrot river health centre.
